Origin

There are over 100 species of Suteras from which Suteranovas are derived. They are native to southern Africa where they are wide spread in open areas so they are sometimes seen on roadsides. These species are not as floriferous as the Suteranova breeding has produced. They are named for a Swiss botanist, Johann Rudolph Suter.

Care Instructions

Planted in any well drained garden soil in sunny areas these plants are little bother. Plant about 30cm apart. Use the various colour forms to create patterns in you planting schemes. Shear back to encourage new shoots to appear if flowering decreases in volume to get new flower bearing shoots to grow.

Water well, particularly in summer until well established. Mulching around the plants is beneficial even in the pots and baskets. Fertilise two or three times a year with your favourite fertilizer.

With these few simple hints you should have success with your Suteranovas.

Uses

During the year Suteranovas will flower for long periods in many aspects of the garden. As mentioned above as garden edging or simply ground cover planted between other plants are good uses. They are hardy and not too fussy. In individual pots or baskets they shine but as combination planters they compliment other taller growing plants as they grow and spill around them.
